Here I thought that it was the familiarity and regularity of married sex that made the difference, but no, it was the extra protein. . . .
First, some background: A protein molecule is made of 22 to 25 amino acids. When protein (including nuts and soy) is broken apart in the digestive tract, the amino acids are then used for different purposes. (Amino acids are also present in fruit, grains and vegetables, but you don't find all of them conveniently in one place.)
According to _The Amino Revolution_, by Robert Erdman, Ph.D, the amino acid "Histidine" is responsible for orgasm.
"Histidine needs to be present in good quantity for orgasm to take place. This amino acid is the parent of the active molecule histamine. Orgasm is triggered when histamine is released in the body from the mast cells in the genitals. . . . When there is insufficient histidine in the body, histamine production is low, and women find it difficult, sometimes even impossible, to achieve orgasm.
"Histamine's effects on orgasm have been well-documented for over a decade by the American researcher Carl Pfeiffer. . . . Without any psychotherapy, the women who had been given histidine broke the bonds of frigidity, achieving an enormous sense of liberation.
"It is either given in the form of a 500-mg dose before each meal, or as part of a larger and better-balanced sex formula . . . Histidine, Lysine, Arginine, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B6, Manganese."
"Pfeiffer then extended his studies to men suffering from premature ejaculation. he discovered that their high histamine levels could be lowered by methionine, taken with a little calcium as a cofactor. These men are now able to lead more satisfying sex lives.
"Rather than directly competing with histidine, the methionine is converted into its active form, s-adenosyl-methionine, a substance that is needed to help create adrenaline. Adrenaline is a most important chemical in controlling the body's sexual activity --it mitigates the effects of high histamine levels, and so delays orgasm.
"To prevent premature ejaculation, try this formula: Amino: methionine; cofactor: calcium, magnesium." (165 - 166)

S-adenosyl-methionine is commonly called/better known as SAM-e... you can find it at drug stores and health-food stores, everywhere...

Hmmm... I guess this is something to consider, when taking allergy meds; the vast majority of them are anti-histamines...

SAM-e is great suff: Good for the liver, good for the joints, good for depression. Makes me feel like cleaning the whole apartment. (Makes me wonder whether it wasn't undermining my sex-life.)
SAM-e is also $40 for a 30-day supply of a name-brand, $30 for CVS brand, and $20 if bought through SwansonHealth com, when they have it in stock.
Otherwise, you can buy L-Methionine at Whole Foods for $9 per bottle.
(The nice thing about SAM-e is that there's no need to rely on your system to convert it.)

If you get to Walgreens while they have their 2-for-1 sale on their own brand of supplements, you can get 100 tabs of SAM-e (a 50-day supply, at the "typical"/recommended dosage level) for $29.99!
I agree - SAM-e is good stuff, for a lot of conditions.

Well . . . I'm currently having good results from ascetyl-L-carnatine + lipoic acid + B-complex + vitamin 'A' at 5PM. Then tyrosine + ester-c in the morning and at bedtime.
(A little histidine at mealtimes probably wouln't hurt, either. I'm definitely avoiding antihistamines. Drinking water with sea-salt clears my sinuses better, anyway.)

That's another good idea. If I'm going to take this-and-that for dopamine/norepinephrine production, plus this-and-that for the catabolic phase, plus something else to keep the sex-life tuned-up, then I might as well take all 25 in free-form and have done with it.
Only problem with that is some of them need to be taken at specific times of day, and some need to be taken with food while others are taken between meals.
